In the spring of 1819, a young fellow by the name of Henry Shaw from Sheffield, England landed in the small French village if St. Louis, Missouri. There he established up a company promoting components to the settlers that had been heading out from the "Gateway to the West." Company was good and he was in a position to retire by the age of forty. Ole Henry would soon turn out to be the largest landowner in the city. He constructed Tower Grove Home, which grew to become his estate, and purchased quite a little bit of land about it.
